Three more points…

Last Sunday the team had a huge success on the road against Southwestern Conference rivals Riverside Coras. After a dramatic 3-2 victory at home in their first leg, San Diego’s team was able to secure a much more comfortable 2-0 away win  at J.W. North Stadium.

Now having won 5 out of their last 6 matches, ASC San Diego is very much in contention for postseason play as they continue to put pressure on the league leaders. With a mere 3 points separating them from the third place spot in the Southwest Conference, the team understands the significance of every match and plays in kind.

On May 21st, ASC took their drive and determination and sealed the fate of the Riverside Coras with a dominate 2-0 performance on the road. This marks the 5th clean sheet for ASC so far this season. The combination of confident defending at the back and an overwhelming attacking presence on the counter caused the Coras all sorts of problems leaving the home side no chance to find a result.

ASC maintained possession of the ball throughout the entire match. The men in red orchestrated over 500 completed passes, creating many scoring attempts that came just shy of their marks including laser shot from 25 yards out made by midfielder Christian Enriquez that the Riverside keeper barely contained.

Two of ASC’s front men were able to find themselves on the scoresheet to ensure all three points in Riverside. In the first half Striker Elijah Rice gave the Riverside keeper no chance as produced a clever chip over the Riverside goalie off a delightful pass sent in from fellow front linesman Sean Callahan in the 34th minute. This gave the team a 1-0 lead at the half.

After the break, ASC sealed the 60th minute game winner when Mike Semenza took possession of the ball and blazed a trail down the right side of the pitch sending in a beautiful cross to Dallin Cutler who responded with a clean finish into the top corner of net from 6 yards out. The rest of the match saw ASC San Diego’s keeper Jean Antoine and their stalwart defense deny the Coras from any whisper of a comeback.
