Searching for a Fifth

The NPSL 2019 season is more than halfway over and the race for the top position in the Southwest Conference is tight. ASC San Diego and two other teams are within one match of current front runner, FC Golden State. With a two to three point differential between the teams, every match and goal are vital to secure the top position in the league.

This week’s match pits ASC San Diego against FC Arizona, who are separated by a one goal differential. In the second of two matches this season, ASC is looking to rebound from an early season tie to FC Arizona and maintain their third place position in the league as they defend a four game win streak. FC Arizona is coming off a 5-1 loss to FC Golden State and will be looking to move ahead of ASC San Diego in the Southwest Region with a victory on Sunday. A win tomorrow would secure three critical points and a possible playoff contention spot for either team.

Four goals and three points

ASC San Diego’s last match on the road at Adelanto Stadium saw the away team run away with a 0-4 shutout over High Desert Elite FC. The first half saw a flurry of action from both sides to create an exciting start. Five minutes after the opening kick, a High Desert defender touched in an own goal off an ASC scoring attempt putting the away team up 0-1. ASC went into the half with a three nil lead and maintained a strong defensive position well into the second. A second half goal by team captain, Kuba locked in a 0-4 result and clean sheet securing three points on the road.
