17 Jun PROS extend unbeaten streak to seven games
SAN DIEGO – Calif. With a 3-1 win over Temecula FC on June 17, The Albion SC PROS increase their unbeaten streak to seven as they push for the NPSL playoffs.
“We scored a couple very good goals along the way. It was a well-deserved three points … really happy for the boys,” said Head Coach Ziggy Korytoski.
Just like the first time the PROS faced Temecula, the physicality of the game became apparent early on. In the ninth minute alone, the PROS were awarded two corner kicks due to Temecula fouls.
The PROS found themselves in striking distance several times early in the match, but did not capitalize until minute 26 after a long ball directed out of the back found Michael Turner. Turner then passed to veteran Frankie Sanfilippo on the far side of the pitch and Sanfilippo scored the first Albion goal of the night.
In minute 52, Turner once again had an assist, but this time to Amani Walker. Turner passed the ball to the right side of the pitch and Walker slid on his left hip, directing the ball into the goal and increasing the lead to 2-0. That goal is Walker’s 11th of the season and Turner’s third assist to Walker.
Temecula FC quickly responded with a chip shot goal to the right post in minute 55 by Joe Dicarlo. Dicarlo’s goal would be the first and only time Temecula would find the back of the net.
After an injury to Felipe Liborio, Sean Callahan came onto the pitch in minute 69. It took less than 60 seconds for Callahan to make an impact as a well-directed pass from Walker allowed Callahan to score the third goal of the night.
The PROS held onto their 3-1 lead for the remainder of the game and gained a valuable three points in their NPSL ranking. The next game for the PROS is on the road against Orange County FC (OCFC) on June 24.
“We’re going to have to be a disciplined team going into that game [against OCFC] and really just make the most of our chances … It’s a big night for us. It’s one that is going to shape the outcome of the season,” said Korytoski.
